Tandoor (MG Road) : Good Ambiance.. Over-rated Food

10:15 AM

Tandoor, MG Road
Whenever I used to pass the MG Road, I have noticed this place several times from outside and it looks like a normal Indian restaurant. But as soon as you step inside, it is a completely different atmosphere. The ambiance has a very Mughal feel with carved paintings on the walls, aptly dressed waiters and yellow lights enhancing this feeling.

This is a good place to go for a fine dine if you are interested to try out the Indian or mughlai cuisine.

Interior
Food: Here is what I ordered and if I liked/disliked it.
Soups: Mushroom shorba - Normally a mushroom soup is creamy, thick and very tasty. But this soup was more like a mushroom broth rather than a soup. Broth consistency with some floating mushroom pieces and pepper. Try something else.

Starters:
Corn Chat : Not worth the price that they charge. Some fried corns are served along with chutney. Do not go for this.

Corn Chat
Veg Shami Kabab: Again a disappointment. Take lots of besan, mix some chopped vegetables and put it in the tandoor. That's what it tasted like and finished a single kabab becomes a challenge and you will not want another one. Do not try.

Veg Shami Kabab
Lassoni Kabab: This is the only dish I would ask one to try at Tandoor. Very very tasty. Amazingly juicy pieces of boneless chicken, marinated with perfect flavors and cooked perfectly. Loved it. Must Try.

Main Course:
Butter Chicken: DO NOT TRY THIS. I think I made a mistake, I should not go for a Punjabi dish in a Mughal restaurant. Some gravy made out of tomatoes and tomato sauce and boneless chicken dumped into it. That's what it tasted like. There was no butter or cream or any flavor for that matter. Did not like it.

Butter Chicken
Subj Noorani Kofta: This was indeed nice but a bit sweet. This dish can be ordered for vegetarians.

Butter Naan
Dessert: GulabJamoon -Nothing out of ordinary but definitely nice.

Alcohol/Wine: Good menu on Alcohol. We did not order any but did notice that a lot of firangi's were enjoying wine and some were enjoying beer.

Alcohol
Service: Slow. If you want to order main course - order it along with starters or soups otherwise you would be left waiting and eating a lot of onion and complimentary chutney before your food arrives.

Location: Centenary Building, MG Road

Dinner for 2: Rs. 1500/-

Overall I feel that the place is a bit over-rated. Ambiance is definitely good. You will see lots of firangi's dining there. Service is very slow and charges are bit high.
But if you would want to enjoy a glass of wine along with a good conversation and have no hurry to go home, you can try this place.
